Butch Burchett was born on February 1, 1946 to the late Shorty and Rita (Womack) Emerson in Tahoka, TX. He graduated from Floyd High School in New Mexico. Butch was drafted into the Army and served four years in Germany. Following his discharge from military service, he moved back to New Mexico and worked as a welder. He was often called upon by Red Adair to repair oil field equipment following an oilfield fire. Butch moved to Lubbock in 1995 and worked for Bigham Bros., Inc. until his retirement. On September 29, 2012 he married Gwynn Carman in Lubbock. Butch was a master woodworker and even enjoyed welding for pleasure.Weldon is survived by his loving wife, Gwynn Burchett of Lubbock, seven children, Kevin (Stacy) Burchett of Jayton, Nancy Maldonado of Levelland, Sheree Sparkman of College Station, Bruce Burchett, Lonnie (Andrea) Tucek of Cypress, Dewayne Tucek of Lubbock, and Melissa (Gilbert) Carabajal of Canyon; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother David (Blondie) Burchett of Glendale, AZ; and a sister, Joann (Lloyd) Creammer of Artesia, NM.
