Tommy Lee Haymes passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 62 years on Monday, January 15, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel.
Tommy Lee was born on June 27, 1955 to Mac and Carrie Neal Haymes in Odessa, Texas. He grew up in Odessa attending Dowling Elementary, Bonham Jr. High and Permian High School. At Permian he was involved in band, made All Region Band all three years and made All State Band his senior year. Right after high school, at the age of 19, he directed the orchestra for the Miss West Texas Beauty Pageant and was also a member of the Midland/Odessa Symphony; all while holding a position as a manager at McDonald’s.
After moving to Arlington, Texas, he married and joined the Marines and had his first born, Carrie. While in the Marines, he trained in electronics and radio repair, after which he went to work for Texas Instruments. On August 8, 1981, Tommy married the love of his life, Martha Thomas in Odessa, Texas at Highland Methodist Church. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Texas Permian Basin and after the birth of his second daughter, Trish, got his MBA also from UTPB.
Tommy and Martha then had twins, Randy and Rhonda and moved to Lubbock in 1988. He left Texas Instruments and went to work for a local construction company and stayed in the construction industry until the day of his passing.
Paw Paw, as everyone knew him, loved his family dinners every Sunday, which included his four children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and numerous extended family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Haymes; their children, Carrie Elliott and husband, Brock; Trish Jester and husband, Jared; Rhonda Haymes, Randy Haymes and wife, Brittany; grandchildren, Jessica James, Briggs and Alex Elliott; Sydney, Jamison, Kenzie, and Justice Jester; Braden Viljoen, Dylan and Emma Haymes; and Tommy Mac Abram; brother, Russell “Russ” Haymes and wife, Claire; nephews, Thomas and Matthew Haymes; and aunt, Joanne Randles. Tommy is also survived by numerous family members, who also loved him dearly.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Willis Mac and Carrie Neal Haymes; an infant great-granddaughter, Tillian Mia Moore.
