Tommy Sherman Chapman passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family on April 16, 2024. A service to celebrate the life of Tommy’s 76 years of life is scheduled at 3:30 PM on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, followed by a time of fellowship with family and friends.
Tommy Sherman Chapman was born at home in the small community of Harris, OK on April 15, 1948, to Ted and Gladys Chapman. The family moved to Floyd County in Texas the next year.
Tommy attended school in Lockney until 1965: that was the year he met Jean Jones from Floydada. They dated eleven months before they were married. They made their home in Floydada, eventually moving to Lockney where their first child was born.
Tommy started managing cotton gins in 1973 in Tell, Texas and continued to do so until retiring in 2018 from Beasley Farmers Gin in Beasley, Texas.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Gladys Chapman, and 4 brothers, Therman Chapman, Ted Chapman, Bill Chapman, and Woodrow Chapman and one sister, Wanda Hatley. Tommy lost his only true love to cancer April 19, 2020. Tommy was never the same, cause where you saw him, you saw Jean.
His survivors are three daughters, Tammy Williams of Lubbock, TX, Toni Chapman of Shallowater, TX, Tina Russell of Shallowater, TX; grandchildren, Jordy (Rachel) Williams, Macie Williams, Sarah Russell, Anna Russell, Jacob Russell, Averi Chapman, Arynn Hutcherson; great-grandchild, Evelyn Norwood; sister, Ruth Ray, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Tommy actually looked forward to death for he knew Jean was waiting on him in Heaven; now they are together forever.
