On January 23, 2024, Teri Dawn Vestal went sliding into Heaven twenty minutes late, sneaking through the Pearly Gates so Mrs. Gunset wouldn’t catch her running behind. Immediately, she rushed to the bathroom to wash her hands and do a quick check in the mirror to make sure her lipstick was on point before she met Jesus. Oh, what a reunion she and her Mom had; in fact, they are still chatting about everything that has happened since Mimi got to meet Jesus. Mimi then took Teri by the hand, showing her around the streets of gold and the mansion in the sky.
Born on January 5, 1969, in Perryton, TX to Gary and Sharon Pugh, Teri grew up in the small town and graduated from Perryton High School in 1987. She then received her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in Education at West Texas State University in Canyon.
Teri worked as a teacher for twenty-nine years at several different schools on the South Plains with the last eighteen years being at Lubbock-Cooper Middle School where she taught both of her boys. Outside of the classroom, Teri loved to spend time in the backyard on 100th street visiting with her dear friends and helping to raise a whole block full of kiddos. Her greatest accomplishments were her two boys, Trey and Tripp, who she loved more than life itself. The saying goes “teachers teach for the outcome, not the income.” It could be argued that Teri taught for the summers off. However, all jokes aside, she was an absolutely wonderful teacher and changed the lives of many children who had the blessing of being in her classroom.
Teri’s memory will forever be cherished by Cole and their two perfect boys, Trey and Tripp; her father, Gary Pugh, and wife, Mary; her sister, Tami, and partner, Jill Remy. plus, hundreds of children that she touched over the years; also, some of the most awesome friends that anyone could ask for who have poured their love into Teri these last few weeks. You know who you are.
Teri was preceded in death by her mother Sharon Rawlins (Mimi) and grandmother, Leona Gage.
