Sue Childress, 82, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 12, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas. Memorial services will be held at Lake Ridge Chapel Saturday, April 15th at 5 pm. She was born in Brownfield, Texas on August 11, 1940, to O.T. “Blackie” and Geneva “Jean” Trumble. Sue attended Lubbock High School and then received her degree and teaching certificate from Texas Tech University.
She married Jimmie “Jim” Childress on August 29, 1962. They moved to California where she taught first grade while Jim attended Brooks Institute of Photography. When they returned to Lubbock, she taught first grade for 4 years and then joined Jim to begin their photography business. Sue loved to read, cook, and lots of family time with “all the kids.” She volunteered to read to elementary school children and wrote a collection of poems in her book called “Reflections.” She loved singing in choir, puns, jumbles, plays on words, and would even volunteer to “help” you with your grammar.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dale. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jim; her daughter and favorite son-in-law, Rhonda and Scott Coursey; and her son and favorite daughter-in-law, John and Allison Childress. Also blessed by her life are her grandchildren Ryan and Lesli McCarroll, Bo Childress, Taylor Bray, Landrie Bray, Steven and Lindsay Coursey, Jonathan and Danielle Coursey, six great-grandchildren, her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Sharon Trumble, her sister, Shirley Strifley, many nieces and nephews, and one grand doodle.
