Sue Etta Gonzales

Sue Etta Gonzales was born in Oklahoma to the late S. L. and Sue (Jolley) Newcomb.  Following graduation from High School, Sue Etta married the love of her life, Felix V. Gonzales, Jr. in Lubbock, Texas.  They spent 65 wonderful years together until his passing in 2020. Sue Etta worked in Furr’s Cafeteria office for many years.  She was a founding member of Oakwood Baptist Church.  She was a member of the Lubbock Women’s Club and the Garden Club. Her love for bridge and passion for cruising alongside her husband, Felix, created cherished memories spanning over three decades. They cruised from 1978 to 2012, and their final cruise together came on a remarkable milestone – their 65th wedding anniversary, aboard the Oasis of the Seas in 2012.

Sue Etta was a proud mother to her daughter, Linda Gonzales Collins and partner, Mac Ryburn; a cherished grandmother to her grand dog Freddy; and a beloved presence in the lives of her sister, Shirley Boyd; nieces, Conni Boyd, Stacy (Dennis) Brown and Renee Simpson; nephew, Craig Boyd.

Sue Etta’s warmth, kindness, and presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, knowing she was loved and cherished by many.

Sue Etta passed away on April 11, 2024, surrounded by her family and care givers, in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 89.
