On July 11, 1948, Sharon was born to Howard and Lanita Smith in Fort Worth, Texas. Sharon’s life was one of constant self-sacrifice for others. She never wanted to be the center of attention. Thus, she would have been most uncomfortable during the last days of her life had she fully realized the loving attention she attracted from her friends and family who surrounded her, held her hands, expressed their love, and thanked God for her Christian life and influence.
Her family was always foremost-only after God and His Son. Her first words uttered amid tears when diagnosed 2 years ago with stage 4 colon cancer were, “I don’t want to put my family through this.” Upon awakening from the effects of anesthesia the same day, she said her first thought was that “God was holding her in the hollow of His hand.” She often said that she wanted to see her grandchildren graduate, see them marry Christians, and to hold their babies. But, because she was a woman of profound faith and trust in God, she also often stated that “God is in control. He is sovereign. And He has a plan.”
In 1956, when Sharon was in the third grade, she and her family began attending Arlington Heights Church of Christ, where her future husband and family also attended. However, she and Gary did not begin dating until October 1964. Sharon graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1966 and Texas Tech University in 1970. On August 15, 1970, she married her committed, loving husband of 52 years, Gary Lindsey, at Las Vegas Trail Church of Christ in Fort Worth.
True to her committed Christian life, Sharon served as a church secretary, Christian school teacher, and administrative assistant to two high school principals at Southwest Christian School in Fort Worth and Abilene Christian School. She next served as administrative assistant to two university presidents at Abilene Christian University and Oklahoma Christian University, as well as serving in the Office of Advancement at the latter university.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Lindsey; their children, Blake Lindsey, and wife, Lianne; and Lauren Blasingame; grandchildren, Drew and Amy Lindsey, Lindsey, and Reagan Blasingame; sister, Lana Trietsch and husband, James; along with their two children and two grandchildren.
