Sara Marie Waters

August 20, 1948 - January 30, 2024

Our dear mother, Sara Marie Waters peacefully passed away on January 30, 2024, at the age of 75.

She was born in New Albany, Indiana and was the daughter of John Scott Waters and Ruth Tighe Waters.

She was the favorite middle child of siblings: Ann Kevin Thesing, Geraldine Nedelkoff, John Scott Waters (Anne), and Thomas Edward Waters.

She received her Masters of Fine Arts from Indiana University and became Professor at Texas Tech University. Her 36 years of dedicated service as a teacher and mentor earner her tenure track and stints as head of the Art Department.

She was the loving mother of John Eric Rogers, Zachary James Watkins and Tighe Marie Baier and grandmother of Tighe’s (Greg) children Isaiah, Lily, Elijah and Eric’s (Abbey) children James and Sam.

Sara’s passion for music and art defined her and deeply inspired her students and community.

Throughout her life, she created art spaces that served as inclusive creative environments and her influence lives in all of us forever.
