Sammy Don Wartes received his wings on November 23, 2015. He was born January 30, 1950, to Carl and Vela (Whisett) Wartes in Southland, TX. He grew up in Southland, Tx., and attended Southland ISD where he lettered in football and graduated from high school. He married Jo Beth Dillard in Post, TX, on August 19, 1967. He started his 40 year trucking career and retired at Fed Ex Freight. He married Nona Montgomery, the love of his life, on January 1, 1991. They had a special love for their blended family and loved us all as their own. They enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and attending church together. They were members of Faith Baptist Church where he drove the youth bus and loved doing it for the children and the Lord. Nona passed away in away in April and he went to be with God and her. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all of us. He was preceded in death by Carl Wartes, Vela Wartes, Butch Wartes, Glenn Hill, Calvin Wartes, Libby Hill Stahl, Joyce Neely, and LaWayne Wartes.He is survived by Wendi Lamb (Joseph), Robin Bishop (Graham), Myrna McCausland (Claud), Dana Richardson, and Cliff Montgomery, all of Lubbock; one brother, Delbert Wartes (Vera), of Post, Tx., two sisters, Doris Cummings of Lubbock and Connie Mitchell of Spring, Tx., His grandchildren include Emily Hinder (Joseph), Trevor Parker, Jeremy Parker, Hannah Bishop, Anthony Bishop, Curtis McCausland (Christy), CJ McCausland, Nicole Richardson, Blake Montgomery, Taylor Montgomery, Erik Montgomery, and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Grace, Curtis Jr., and Emma Grace.
