The family of Sam Smiley will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. A service to celebrate his life of 74 years will follow at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Lake Ridge Chapel. He passed unexpectedly on Sunday morning, September 4, 2022.
On December 1, 1947, Samuel Clay was born to Henry and Ruby Smiley in Deport, Texas. After moving to Lubbock, he went on to graduate from Lubbock High School in 1966. Sam then married Darla Hackney, his wife of 52 years, on December 20, 1969, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas. He worked at Alderson Cadillac as a Service Technician for over 30 years. Sam spent a lot of his time in the mountains of Cloudcroft, New Mexico enjoying his favorite past times of camping and riding motorcycles. He adored his daughters and granddaughters and was always involved in their various activities. He will be dearly missed by all those that knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Darla Smiley; their children, Melanie (Donald) Cristan, and Melissa (Scott) Attaway; grandchildren, Lainey and Evyn Cristan; siblings, Paula Herrington; Linda (Donnie) Fox, and John (Gail) Smiley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruby Smiley.
