Sallye was born February 8, 1939 to Wilbur and Della McLean Lemon in Lubbock, TX. She met the love of her life, Joel Tankersley, while attending Texas Tech University and they were married on June 11, 1960. Sallye was a loving wife, devoted mother of three, and mentor to many over the next 63 years. She loved her Lord, had an infectious laugh, and a smile that lit up a room. Sallye never met a stranger and had the gift of accepting everyone. Her hospitality and gift of entertaining put everyone at ease and her home was always a place where others wanted to gather. She dedicated her life to family, community, and sharing the word of God. Sallye loved to laugh! Her sense of humor, integrity, class and encouragement of others will be greatly missed. She was always selfless and gracious. She will be celebrated by all that knew her.

Sallye is survived by husband, Joel Tankersley; children, Dean (Cindy) Tankersley and Krista Tankersley; grandchildren, Charles (Katy) Vannoy, Tayler Odhiambo, Caroline Tankersley and Beck Tankersley; great-grandchildren, Nova Odhiambo, Olivia Vannoy, and Dallas Vannoy; daughter-in-law, Amy Tankersley; nephew, Kim Lemon; brother-in-law, Danny Tankersley; nieces, Dawn Garza and Tammy Tankersley; beloved caregivers, Sandy Chapa, Johanna Gauna, Nichole Garcia.

She is preceded in death by parents, Wilbur, and Della Lemon; son, Jeff Tankersley; siblings, Thomas Lemon and Joe Lemon; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Burton (Mittie) Tankersley.

In lieu of flowers, the family has chosen High Point Village for donations in Sallye’s memory.

What a beautiful soul. Sallye was an extra mom to me as she always had food and goodies for Dean, Jeff and me to munch on after school. Countless games of pool, D&D and football at their home. She will be missed... love, Eric

She left an empty spot in our lives. Last time I visited the Tankersleys, she baked her secret Chocolate Chip, walnut cookies for me. I know she did these things for others also.

Being born and raised withing a few miles of each other, Sallye and I were life-long friends. I remember her most as a classmate at Cooper (Lubbock) school. She was smart, attractive, social, and devoted Christian--always wearing a smile. I have nothing but good memories of this fine lady. I'm sure she'll be missed by family members, friends and all who knew her. May she rest in peace.

Sallye was a friend of my sisters, Ann Workman, from 1st grade to freshman year. Our family the Workmans moved in 1950 from Woodrow to Plainview. I think Sallye was in Ann n's wedding. Sallye wanted Ann to spend the night with her probably 1st grade. My mother didn't know Wilbur & Della so mother went to the Lemon's house to meet them. Then it was ok for Ann to spend the night. So sorry for your loss.

I grew on our our family (the RICHARDSON’s) farm, next to the Lemons. All of that time and people are gone now, but the smile and friendliness of Sallye is a strong memory. She was older than me, but her image of a ‘nice person is still very large. Bless her family.
