Ruth Ellen Thomann née Wehrle, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 7, 2021. Ruth was born in Centralia, Illinois on December 11, 1928, to Agnes and Clarence Wehrle. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School where she became acquainted with the Felician nuns. Ruth was fascinated with the nun’s lifestyle and loved to hear them sing and pray. By the time Ruth was in 8th grade, she knew she wanted to become a nun. At the age of 14, she was accepted to an Aspirant high school in Springfield, Illinois run by the Franciscan Nuns. At the age of 18, Ruth joined the Franciscan Order and became a novice in 1946. She enjoyed working at the hospital and spending time in prayer. In 1950 Ruth left the convent and entered nursing school and worked as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital with the Felician nuns in Centralia, Illinois. Ruth met Carl Thomann on a blind date and the couple was married in 1952. Ruth and Carl Thomann moved to Colorado where they had two sons, Daniel C. Thomann and Michael W. Thomann. While living in Colorado, Ruth worked in the nursing home industry and retired at the age of 63 after being a nursing home administrator for 22 years. In retirement, Ruth volunteered for Hospice where she continued to care for those in need. Ruth remained devoted to her spiritual life throughout her 92 years. In her free time, she enjoyed volunteering, taking day trips to the mountains, exercising, taking computer courses, and spending time with her family.
Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Carl Thomann, and her son Daniel Thomann.
Survivors include her son, Michael Thomann, grandchildren, Chris Thomann (Lacey) and Laura Truelock (Cory), and great-grandchildren, PJ Frazier, Caly Truelock, and Cason Truelock.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Hope Lutheran Church & School, 5700 98th St, Lubbock, TX.
