Roy Gene Fraley was born in Haskell, Texas on October 12, 1930, to Leonard and Gladys McMillin Fraley. He passed from this life on August 29, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 93.
Roy graduated from high school in Haskell, Texas in 1948 and served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 where he deployed to England, Denmark, North Africa, Azores, and Bermuda. While stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida Roy met Annette Templeton. They married April 29, 1955, in her parents’ home in Palmetto, Florida. They moved to Big Spring, Texas where Roy began a Civil Service career as a jet engine mechanic at Webb Air Force Base. He and Annette moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1977 where Roy retired in 1986 at Reese Air Force Base after a 30-year Civil Service career. In retirement Roy and Annette moved to Tyler, Texas in 1992 where they began travelling in search of antiques for their Ragtime Antiques shop with his favorite collectible being clocks. He made sure there was at least one in almost every room of the house. They continued their love of antiques until Annette’s death in August 2009. After her death he found he had a passion for restoring little red MG cars.
Roy was a former member of Shiloh Road Church of Christ and West Erwin Church of Christ in Tyler. It was at church that Roy and Jean Rutherford became friends and companions. They have enjoyed and cared for each other for many years.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Annette, and a sister, Claudia Allison. He leaves behind his three girls, Debbie Morman and husband Kelly of Lubbock; Sheryl Tindel of Lubbock; and Karen McDougal and husband Jody of Florence, Mississippi; and grandchildren, Stephen Willey, Zach Morman (his wife Babes), Whitney Morman, and Alex McDougal.
