Rodney J. Rogers, age 76, quietly went to sleep on July 29, 2021, and woke in the arms of Jesus. He was born on May 7, 1945, in Douglas, Wyoming, to Roscoe and Erma Rogers. He graduated from Douglas High in 1964 and joined the Navy. He served four years, including one year in Vietnam. In 1978, Rodney joined the Navy Reserve and served for an additional 18 years. Rodney graduated from the University of Wyoming and received a degree in counseling from Texas Tech. He taught English from 1974 until December 2008. He worked part-time as a relief house parent for Texas Boys Ranch and The Children’s Home of Lubbock for 15 years. In recent years he served part-time as Senior Minister of Pastoral Care for the Monterey Church of Christ. In addition to paid positions, Rodney was passionate about his volunteer work which allowed him to serve others. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Lubbock Leadership for Children, Kindred Hospice, and Covenant Hospital. He loved studying and teaching the Bible and was active in BSF, CBS, Men’s Bible Study, Sunday Bible Class, and small group home Bible studies.

He is survived by his wife, Debra, of 49 years; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Lauren Rogers; daughter and son-in-law, Lindsey and John Harlan; sisters, Patricia Rogers and Linda Seely; and his most beloved grandchildren, Bree, Emie, Maddie, Liam, and Cole. He also leaves behind a world of people he dearly loved.

Family visitation will be at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers Sunday, August 1, from 6 to 8 pm. A celebration of his life will be at the Monterey Church of Christ at 10 am on Monday, August 2, 2021.  We invite you to view the live-streamed service here on this page, sign his virtual guestbook, and download his memorial keepsake folder to your device for printing.  We also ask you to consider viewing his Life Tribute, a video of photographs set to his favorite music.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Children’s Home of Lubbock.
