On Friday, December 15, our beloved Rick Betenbough finished his race and met his Savior face-to-face, surrounded by his loved ones. We know he was met with, a “well done, good and faithful servant.”
Born on July 5, 1964, Rick grew up a West Texas boy, graduating from Slaton High School in 1982. He always had a zeal for life and enjoyed following his real estate dad, Ron, around as a young boy.
He met the love of his life, Holly Edwards, at a Lion’s Club gathering in Hawaii at the age of 19 and they married in 1989. Together they built a life devoted to one another, family, and God.
Rick, and his father, Ron, joined in 1992 and founded Betenbough Homes – a Lubbock-based homebuilding company dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality homes to the marketplace. The pair built 11 homes that inaugural year, launching a business that continues to serve communities around West Texas, leaving a legacy to this day as it spans multiple cities, 350 employees, and more than 17,000 homes. Rick served as the CEO since the company’s inception and more recently moved to the role of chairman of the board for Betenbough Companies.
During those years, Rick and Holly adopted two precious six-year-old kiddos, James and Shannon, in 1998 beginning the journey of parenthood, which would lead them later in life to connect with James and Shannon’s brother, Kenny Neal, who is a son to them as well.
Rick’s calling in life was to share what God has done in and through his family’s business and to inspire others to surrender their businesses to the Lord. Rick never did anything halfway, so in 2016 he started committing nearly all his time to speaking and mentoring other CEOs and business leaders about this idea. His legacy is helping coworkers and friends understand their true identity and encouraging them to stand up in their calling. That pursuit literally leaves a global impact, which the Lord continues to multiply beyond anything imaginable in our natural understanding.
Rick is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Holly, his sons, James Betenbough and wife, Tiffany; Kenny Neal and fiancée, Teri; daughter, Shannon Hughes and husband, Michael; father, Ron Betenbough and wife, Connie; mother, Joy Lawson; brothers, Sean Betenbough, Chris Snyder, Sean Snyder; sisters, Chelsey Betenbough, Huni Betenbough, Tohi Betenbough, Ann Marie Meredith, Jeannie Pendergast; sisters-in-law, Latrica Jowers and husband, Jasper; Randa Reeves and husband, Kevin; grandson, Ryker Betenbough; granddaughters, Naomi, Abbey, and Jeannie Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
