Randall Kent Fowler was born on May 2, 1951, to Clifton Taylor and Zelma Oleva (Tidwell) Fowler in Eunice, NM. Randy loved his family and was grateful for the memories and friendships he had of growing up in the small town of Eunice. Randy not only excelled in academics but was an excellent athlete. He was drafted to play baseball for the Cincinnati Reds right out of high school, however, he opted for a college degree instead while playing Division 1 baseball and basketball at New Mexico State University. He transferred to Eastern New Mexico University where Randy met Donna Bock, whom he married on August 18, 1973. He completed his degree at ENMU while playing basketball and baseball. He went on to earn his master’s degree in school administration and served in numerous capacities as a coach, assistant principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent of schools. He also worked at Region 18 Education Center in Texas as a field service agent for superintendents. He completed his career by returning to Portales, NM as superintendent of schools where he retired in 2013. His commitment to excellence and unwavering support for his students and staff earned him the respect and admiration of many who worked with him.
Upon retirement Randy and his wife, Donna, have lived in Lubbock where they became involved in Southcrest Baptist Church. Randy enjoyed the many friendships he made at Southcrest and his wonderful Sunday School class, Cornerstone. He enjoyed playing golf with friends from church and old friends he made throughout his coaching career.
Randy was dedicated to his family, and cherished his loving wife, Donna, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on August 18th, 2023. He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Christie and Chelsie, who are grateful for his unconditional love, wisdom, and example of service to God by serving others. The greatest joys of his life were his grandchildren, Emersyn and Eli, of whom he was extremely proud. Of all his roles in life, he most cherished being their PawPaw. Randy will be remembered by his family and friends for his humility, kindness, and grateful heart.
