Mona was born in Mullin, TX in 1932 to Raymond and Myrl Burdette, who taught her the value of hard work, cherishing time with family and fostered her lifelong love of cooking. She attended Mullin High School, before starting her career as an Xray Technician. Mona was always close with her three sisters, Wanda, Wilma and Jo, and they all loved traveling together over the years. Mona became a mother to her son, Mike, in 1957 with her first husband, Dick Stafford.
In 1969, Mona met the love of her life, Jack McMillan in Denver City, TX and they were married for 40 years, until his death in 2010. Mona and Jack built their life, and home, in Higginbotham, where she loved running the family farming business and raising her beloved son, Mike.
There was nothing that made Mona happier than cooking her home-grown vegetables from the garden while watching the grandchildren playing in the yard. She always said there was nowhere that she’d rather be than at home on the farm in West Texas.
Mona was truly one of a kind. Spending time with friends and family was her true passion. She loved entertaining and when she wasn’t helping manage the family farm, her favorite pastimes were traveling to Ruidoso, golfing, and hosting bridge club. She had a passion for giving and serving others and Mona was a loved friend by many.
She loved the holidays and made sure everyone left happy and well-fed! She also loved playing board games and was known far and wide for always managing to win the fierce Wahoo and Skip-Bo battles that came after grilling on the deck at her cherished home in Ruidoso, NM. She never did spill the secret to the perfect dice roll.
After Jack’s passing, Mona was lucky enough to meet, and marry, Clayton Daniel while they both worked at Market Street Supermarket. She loved the time they spent together traveling and socializing in Lubbock.
Mona was preceded in death by her spouses, Jack McMillan and Clayton Daniel; her son, Mike Stafford; her parents Raymond and Myrl Burdette; and her sisters Wanda Burdette and Wilma Greer. She is survived by her sister, Jo Parker, granddaughter Jennifer Mangold and her husband, Scott, grandson, Jeff Stafford and his wife Lori, great-granddaughters Paige and Olivia Stafford, as well as Clayton’s children, Steve, Brian and Lee Ann along with their spouses, and many cherished cousins and nephews.
Mona will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
