R.L. Rhoten passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.A celebration of his beautiful and fulfilling 87 years of life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 2:00 PM, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.He was born on February 5, 1935, to Roy Lee and Minnie Lois (Gilliland) Rhoten in Littlefield, TX, where he resided until his graduation from Littlefield High School. Soon after, R. L. married the love of his life, Glenda Readhimer, on June 27, 1954, in Lockney, TX. He continued his education at West Texas State University, where he was an avid football player and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Following college, he became a member of the National Guard and served active duty in Fort Chaffee, AR. Upon returning to Lockney, TX, R.L. was an educator and coach in Lockney before continuing his career as a crop insurer for several different companies until his retirement in 2002.R. L. had many hobbies, some of which included visiting and traveling with his close friends and spending time with his family. His love for Texas Tech was supported by attending many sporting events and holding season tickets for over 30 dedicated years for Red Raider Football and Lady Raider Basketball. He and Glenda even accompanied Texas Tech Women’s Basketball abroad to Europe and Australia, as well as traveled with friends to many out-of-state football games. R. L. was a member of the fraternal order of the Masons, T Club, WT Alumni Association, and the Texas Tech Red Raider Club. He was also a loving member at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where he attended the Seekers Sunday School Class.Survivors of R.L. include his beloved wife, Glenda Rhoten; their children, Leann (Loy) Dorsey, and Rex L.P. (Mae) Rhoten; grandchildren, Lauren (Nacho) Alva, Allie Rhoten, Jack Rhoten, Finn Rhoten, Grace Rhoten; great-grandchild, Matteo; brother-in-law, Jerry Foote; niece, Sherry (Grant) Lee; nephew, Ray (Suzie) Foote; and sister-in-law, Jo (Harry) Bostick; along with numerous friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ardelia “Dee” Foote.
