Phyllis Elizabeth French, 63, passed away on Aug. 19, 2018, in Lubbock, Texas.

Born into an Army family at Fort Benning, GA, Phyllis moved often throughout her childhood but the Bay Area was home. She graduated from San Marin High School in 1971. She attended San Diego State University where she met Robert French and they married in 1975.

Phyllis graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a BA in Early Childhood Education in 1991. She was a teacher in the Northside Independent School District for more than 20 years and was named Teacher of the Year at Steubing Elementary in 2004-2005.

Phyllis is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Katie McDonald of Dallas, and Emily and Trent Murphree of Lubbock, and five grandchildren; Maddie, Caroline and Brendan McDonald; and Ella and Cole Murphree. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Tom Crowell of Gilbert, AZ. She is preceded in death by her parents, Col. William M. and Frances Cole, and her beloved husband of 40 years, Robert French.

A memorial service will be held at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home on Aug. 25 at 10 a.m. 111 Rosewood Ave. Boerne, Texas 78006

I’m shocked to have just found out that Phyllis had passed away.I had recently talked to her on the phone consoling her over the loss of her husband.She was beautiful and a wonderful human being.I remember her back in the 70’s living next door to me in San Marin.My condolences to her family Such a wonderful beautiful woman who left this world way to soon.Sincerely Don Dressel

Phyllis was my neighbor here in Lubbock. I only knew her a short time but recognized her warmth and generosity when she quickly volunteered to help provide a meal for one of our neighbors who was having surgery. Praying for your comfort and the expectancy of being with your mother and grandmother again one day.

Dear Emily, Katie, Debbie and your whole family. Your slide-show memorial was so wonderful...your sorrow is mine, Nancy Frankiewicz-Shultz. (My sister is Sue Frankiewicz-Nielson). But you know? I just can't stop crying.

Phyllis and I taught together our first year at Steubing Elementary. She was a fabulous teacher. a wonderful colleague, and a great friend. I will miss her. I am so sorry for your loss! Phyllis was such a blessing, such a good friend and the world’s best math specialist! I loved your Mom and Dad, and know how lost you’ll be without Mom and Grandma. She loved her family so much. Treasure your sweet memories and I pray they will comfort your aching hearts.

We lost a beautiful sister in law and have enjoyed knowing her for the past 46 years. She was such a wonderful person and what a blessing she was to marry into our family. No words can describe how sad we are for you Katie and Emily. We all love you so much and are with you in spirit always. Wish we could have been there for the memorial this weekend.
