Our sincere condolences from Uncle Syl and Aunt Meli. We will always remember him as a kind brother, funny stories, visits to Lubbock and in San Angelo. We always remember the good times we all had as couples and laughing. We will soon share those times again. To our nieces and nephew, we love you dearly and wish we could be there for you to hug and hold your hands. Pete always talked about each one of you with a smile on his face, all of your kids, and how proud he was of all of you. And those stories! We will always cherish, even though they lasted all night! It was worth listening to all of them. We love you all!, Uncle and Aunt!

My heartfelt condolences to the family of my brother, Pedro “Pete” Garza. Not because he was my brother but he was an amazing human being. If you read the obituary you will see all the wonderful organizations he was involved in, always the contributor to good causes. He was a very loving person to all who knew him. He loved music and played the saxophone in school and when he had the opportunity in his adult life. He had a positive attitude and strong belief in God our Savior. The heavens have gained a powerful angel who will be watching over all of us who knew him and loved him with all our hearts. Rest in peace my brother until we meet again. Love, your “little” sister.

My deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Mr. Pete (as I always called him) during my years in LULAC Council 263. He had calm demeanor and carried himself as a true Gentlemen. He had a passion for his culture and worked tirelessly in seeing us advance. He looked for and wanted the best for people. We became friends and I cherish our talks over the years. I still remember one conversation after a LULAC meeting, must have been in the mid 1980's and he said, "David, we are going to elect you Sheriff one day", (From Pete's lips to God's Ear.) That was 13 years before I was elected Sheriff of Lubbock County. It was my honor to know you! May you Rest In Peace Mr. Pete!

Darlene left a message on April 29, 2020:
Our brother, Syl, did have to go to Lubbock for treatment of a leg tumor when he was little. He got pampered like a king by our Aunt Maggie and Uncle Pete. It was a blessing to have such loving care during a really scary time. Two precious memories stand out about this time. First, Aunt Maggie bought my brother a Bozo the Clown gumball machine (with refills), and Syl was the only one allowed to take gum out of that thing. I'm not sure if all the Garza brothers were like this, but our Dad (Sylvester) never believed in any of us being soft (sissies I'm sure he called it). Following in those footsteps, my 5 or 6 year-old self didn't think it fair that my brother received a gift for having his leg in a cast. Uncle Pete took pity on me and promised to get me a doll the next time we were visiting. That doll never materialized (I don't think it was ever intended to), but it became a running joke between me and my Uncle -- Hey, Uncle Pete, where's my doll? His reply was always "I'm still looking for the perfect one." After which, I always got a big bear hug. That was a better gift any way you look at it. The other is that my Uncle was very good at what he did. While Syl was still in that leg cast, Uncle Pete came to San Angelo to check on the healing process. My brother was scared to death when he heard that Uncle Pete was going to use a saw on his leg. It was one of those little rotozip things, but my brother wasn't having any of it. Uncle let him hold it and turn it on. He explained what he was going to do, and totally put my brother at ease. Zip, zip and it was done. I remember Uncle Pete laughing and letting all of us know everything would be okay. Here's my last memory of Uncle Pete in Lubbock. Our son was admitted to Texas Tech, and Uncle Pete was thrilled. He and Aunt Maggie both let him know that he was welcome to come over and visit (eat) any time. Uncle asked all the time about how our son was doing and if he needed anything. Our visits to Tech were a nice excuse to have my Dad/his brother come to Lubbock. Even though Tech wasn't the right fit for our son, I'm glad we got to visit Uncle Pete and Aunt Maggie more often. I'm really glad to have been given the lowdown on the best Mexican restaurants in town! Uncle Pete, they just don't make models like you anymore. You will be sorely missed, but I'm glad you will be waiting for us on the other side. For the family, our heartfelt condolences on your loss. May God grant you all peace and comfort during this time of grieving. If you need anything, please let us know.

A memory that my mom (Amelia Garza/ brother Sylvester Garza) shared about uncle is one that will always stick with me. My brother had pain in his leg when he was very young. The family doctor passed it as if he was spoiled, but mom felt something in her spirit that it wasn't that at all and that there was nothing she could do. Unc used to visit our house in San Angelo regularly, so one day, he noticed my brother limping. He told mom to bring him to Lubbock for another xray. When he saw the xray, he saw that there was a tumor in his leg. The family doctor didn't read the xray right or may not have even read it. Soon after, the family took trips to Lubbock and my brother went through some hospitalization. Unc and aunt let us stay at their house, I remember a recliner in the living room that my bro and I used to sit on. I was small then, but I do remember unc. and that my brother was really babied after that. Na, God placed uncle in place to help when our family doctor didn't. My brother lived because my unc. passion for his work and love for his family. I always remember uncle looking like my father. One time I went to my grandmothers house and went to her kitchen. I passed by my uncle and said hi uncle Pete! Then I went in their living room to say hi to my grandfather. Then unc Pete was just laughing. I went in to see what was going on and it turned out it was my father! He had shaved his mustache! I told him the story and he laughed. The last time I saw him, he remembered my name. Junebug... made me smile! We will see you again unc!To the family, we love you and are praying for you. You have both taken care of your parents and for that we are grateful! Love you and prayers for all of you!
