The family of Ouida Bell “Sue” Hines will celebrate her life of 87 years at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, Lubbock, Texas. Viewing for Sue will be on Friday, December 4, 2020, from 9:00 AM-6:00 PM at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. A family burial will be December 9, 2020 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock. Sue went home to be with her Lord on Monday, November 23, 2020. In support of the health of her family, face coverings are mandatory while attending the viewing and service. The service will be live-streamed on this page, where you are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy.On May 21, 1933, Ouida was born to Oliver E. and Ova Lee Gibbs in Haskell, Texas. She grew up in Haskell, Texas with her sisters Elsie V. Jacobs, LaDell Gibbs and Zella Verlene White. Many of her extended family lived in the surrounding area.Sue married Glen L. Hines on March 24, 1951 in Rule, Texas. Glen and Sue moved to Levelland in 1957 where she was a homemaker as they raised their children. She was later employed at South Plains College and Levelland ISD. Her special talents and interests included sewing, cooking, gardening, quilt-making and birdwatching. They enjoyed camping in the mountains with family and friends and retirement in Ruidoso. Glen and Sue moved to Lubbock in 2000. They were married 51 years when Glen passed in 2003. Sue had church memberships at First United Methodist Church in Levelland and Agape Methodist Church in Lubbock.Survivors include her daughters, Paula Hines of Lubbock, Nancy Welch and husband Phillip of Big Spring, and Glenda Gallagher and husband Denny of Lubbock; grandchildren, David Welch and wife Ashley of Abilene, Eric Welch and wife Jamie of Abilene, Stephanie Arehart and husband David of Rockwall, and Matthew Gallagher of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Taylor Carter of Greenville, Davis and Dawson Arehart of Rockwall and Amelia Welch of Abilene; great-great-grandson, Dallas Leatherwood of Lubbock.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Glen L. Hines Jr., her daughter Linda K. Hines and her three sisters.
