Oneta Janelle Sedgwick was born on July 1, 1919, to B. B. Jones and Nellie Mae Hefner Jones. She married Amos Sedgwick on January 14, 1938 and resided in Kress, Texas. They celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries.
Oneta was active in the First Baptist Church of Kress, Texas for many years. She held many positions of leadership in the church such as Sunday school teacher and a Deacon’s wife.Oneta will be missed for her keen wit and sweet spirit. She was a wonderful, loving, and fun mother. Her “Grandmother Trips” with her daughters and grandchildren were filled with awesome memories. She was always ready for company and to entertain and was prepared to feed you.
Oneta is preceded in death by her husband Amos Sedgwick, daughter Janelle Hargrove, and son, Alvin Royce Sedgwick; one grandson, Danny Lynn Hargrove, and one great-grandson, Josh Chester; three brothers, James Paul Jones, Bobby B. Jones, and Donald Lee Jones; and two sisters, Tommy Ruth Lutz and Medalene Peterson.
Oneta is survived by her daughter Joyce Golden of Brownfield, Texas; son, Ronnie M. Sedgwick and wife, Sandra, of Conroe, Texas; son-in-law Jim Bob Hargrove of Sudan, Texas; eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Jo Sogard of Wichita Falls, Nancy May of Graham, Texas; sisters-in-law Lavenia Jones and Mary Helen Jones of Slaton, Pat Jones of College Station, Texas; one brother, Doug Jones and wife Doris of Graham, Texas.
Oneta Janelle Sedgwick passed away December 29, 2016 in Lubbock, Texas.
