Oleta Wren Morris, 87, passed away peacefully on Feb. 3, 2022, at the Runningwater Draw Care Center in Olton, surrounded by a loving family. Born in Hico, Texas, she graduated from Lubbock High School and lived many years in the Lubbock area.A faithful Christian throughout her life, Oleta and her husband Bill attended Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland, Central Church of Christ in Abilene, then Hillcrest Church of Christ, until they moved nearer their children – first to Houston, then to Plainview. For 18 years, Oleta was known as the “voice of ACU,” as she answered hundreds of calls coming into the switchboard each week with a cheery, “Abilene Christian!”Oleta was always known for her hospitality. She and Bill often hosted college students in their homes for meals, and they served as a host home for several international students attending Abilene Christian University. Her every-Sunday pot roast lunch drew all the kids and grandkids to her dining table for years, and she made everyone feel welcome. She was famous for her homemade lasagna and pineapple-upside-down cake, and her food was always popular at potlucks and family gatherings. Before becoming ACU’s long-serving switchboard operator, Oleta made popular meals at Midland Christian Schools. Early in her professional life, she worked in a print shop, and she was proud that she earned the same salary as the men – well before that was normal! She is survived by her husband, Bill Morris; her brother and sister-in-law Harold and Edna Fay Wren; children Ric and Michelle Morris and Karen and Gregg Greer; grandchildren Sara and Jon McPherson, Corinne and Payton Giacomarro, Brandon Greer, Nikki and Tylan Jones, Jess Greer, CE Greer and Daniel Greer; and great-grandchildren Asher McPherson and Mason Jones. The family of Oleta Morris will celebrate her life of 87 years at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Lake Ridge Chapel.
