Nancy Rebecca Fehleison passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 surrounded by her children. We will host a time of fellowship of Nancy’s family and friends as we remember her life of 84 years from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Nancy was born on July 25, 1933 to Leslie and Bessie Lu McCreight Hill in Snyder, Texas. She was the middle of five children and only daughter. Moving to Lubbock as a teenager, Nancy graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in elementary education in 1954. On June 21, 1953, Nancy married Robert “Bobby” Fehleison at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Nancy taught school in Lubbock for several years before moving south of Lubbock where she spent the rest of her adult life farming cotton alongside her husband of fifty-five years. She was the first woman elected to the Lubbock-Cooper ISD School Board where she served from 1973-1988 and was Board president from 1984-1988. After retirement, Nancy and Robert enjoyed travelling and visiting their children and grandchildren. Nancy loved Texas Tech men’s basketball and was a season ticket holder for over 50 years. During her extensive travel, Nancy enjoyed attending theatrical performances, visiting museums, and exploring new countries. Nancy was a life-long learner, and she returned to Texas Tech to take classes in accounting and computer programming. She was an active member of various clubs, including the Twentieth-Century Club and a Great Books reading group. Nancy was proudest of her children’s educational and professional accomplishments.
Survivors include her children, Jon G. Fehleison and wife, Christal McElroy of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey; James M. Fehleison and wife, Paula of Arlington, Texas; and Jill R. Fehleison and husband, Bernard Grindel of Hamden, Connecticut; two grandsons, Jase Fehleison, Ben Fehleison and wife, Mary; one step grandson, Ryan McElroy; one granddaughter, Juliana Grindel; one step granddaughter, Amanda McElroy; two brothers, Paul Hill and wife, Barbara; and Rob Hill; and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Hill, wife, of the late J.M. Hill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Augustus and Bessie Lu Hill; her brothers, L.A. Hill and J. M. Hill; and her husband of fifty-five years, Robert Gilbert Fehleison.
