Mary Louise Summerville was born September 23, 1924, to Lonnie and Ruth Brown in Wichita Falls, TX. Mary Lou was the eldest of her 4 siblings, Alvin Brown, Norma Jean Kincaid, Leslie Brown, and J.C. Wilburn. Mary Lou was a fun-loving mother and grandmother, skilled wallpaper hanger, superior bowler, seasoned dancer, and expert crafter of things.
She was known by those who loved her to have created the most amazing clothing from scratch, made delicious popcorn balls, and built excellent doll houses from cardboard boxes. Her kind and generous spirit was well known, and she always rooted for the underdog. She was loved for her Sunday roast, cheese in her salads, date nut candy, and could be expected to be late to church every Sunday. If you couldn’t find her, you knew to always look for her in her bed with a good book and a cup of tea. She adored playing and was an excellent swimmer, diving judge, roller skater, and line dancer. She was very fortunate to travel to various places with her husband, daughters, and sister.
She loved the church women’s retreat and could grow purple irises in the desert land of her home. To a select few, she was known as Pierre, from France, and was run over by “reindeer” grandkids on more than one occasion. We will miss Mary Lou greatly, but we rest assured that she left an incredible legacy in our world.
Mary is survived by children, Lucia (Dino) Castro, Lyn Garcia, Leta (David) Pascetti; grandchildren, Cassandra, Heather, Yancey, Sarah, Nick, and Bianca; great-grandchildren, Damon, Adria, Lydia, Vivienne, Ivalenne, and Mary; son’s-in-law, Gary Mayer, Frank Gray.
She is preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Summerville, daughters, Mona Mayer, Vena Gray; parents, Lonnie Brown, Ruth Wilburn; brothers, Alvin Brown, Leslie Brown, J.C. Wilburn; sister, Norma Jean Kincaid; son-in-law, Andy Garcia.
