Mary Joan “Jo” Powell passed away Monday, August 27, 2018. Family and friends will celebrate her life of 86 years on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 11:00 am at Lake Ridge Chapel, followed by a committal service at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Jo was born on January 29, 1932 to Granford (Pop) and Ida Rayburn (Short) Brown in Lubbock, Texas. She went to school in Lubbock and graduated from Lubbock High School. Jo enjoyed participating in activities with her three sons, and spent much of her time preparing and going to games, musical programs, and other school events with all of her sons. Jo, or better known as Jo Jo with her grandchildren, enjoyed participating in any activity or just spending time with her grandchildren. Jo was very fortunate to have some very special friends, and they continued to have fun and socialize throughout her life. Jo also had special friends that helped her to continue to live at her home. She was very appreciative of all of the friendships and the caring help she received from special people.
Survivors include her three sons, Michael Brown Powell and wife, Lynne; William Chad Powell; and Steven Clay Powell and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Madeline, Leslie, David, Grant, and McKeely; and great grandchildren, Peyton and Parker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Granford Homer and Ida Josephine Brown; and sister, Dorothy Ludell Priddy.
