Mark was born October 16, 1956, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, the son of Lee A. Sanderson and Dorris (Keller) Sanderson. He graduated from Hagerman High School in 1975 and attended New Mexico State University. He later joined his parents in the family business – Hagerman Lumber & Supply Inc. Mark married Jacquelyn Sanderson (McPherson) in Artesia, NM on May 24, 1980. In 1988 Mark began a 27-year career with Holly Frontier, retiring September 30, 2015. Hunting & fishing were always some of Mark’s favorite activities but as his family grew he became involved in their activities, including coaching Little League Baseball and Girls’ Softball. Mark especially enjoyed Bulldog Football and Quarterback Club.
Mark & Jacquelyn moved to Lubbock, Texas in December of 2020 where he continued to follow his grandchildren’s activities and Red Raider Football & Basketball. He enjoyed attending Turning Point Community Church with his family & rarely missed the Men’s Fight Club and annual Man Camp. Mark cherished traveling, including a favorite trip with friends to Scotland & Ireland, where they hiked the southern tip of Ireland, experiencing the beautiful scenery and multiple whiskey tastings. He was particularly grateful for the many beach trips, treasuring those moments with Jacquelyn and the precious times spent with family at the beach. Mark looked forward to more travel; he was always ready to pack a bag and camera. In recent months, one of his greatest joys was looking at [photos of family, friends, and many adventures.
Mark loved the Lord, and he loved his family and friends. He was compassionate, focused on caring for his family, and always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be missed tremendously, but we are comforted knowing Mark is in heaven and we are blessed by the examples he set and the lessons he taught us.
Mark is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn of Lubbock, TX; daughter Courtney Lanning and husband Travis, grandson Jackson Lanning and granddaughter Harper Lanning all of Lubbock; son Braden Sanderson and wife Tara of Buena Vista, Colorado; sisters Carma Wilson and husband Bill and Belva Flores and husband Ruben all of Lubbock, Texas.
