Marie Ruth Nelson

Marie Ruth Nelson., Age 78, of Lubbock, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2020.Marie was born November 23, 1942, in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada but relocated with her parents to El Paso, Texas, as a young child.  She graduated from Irvin High School, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, James F. Hinson, Jr., who preceded her in death.  While they were raising two sons, job transfers necessitated several relocations throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.  Marie remarried Jim Nelson of Hobbs NM, and after retiring, they enjoyed many adventures traveling the country and attending motor coach rallies where they met several dear friends.  Both Jim and her third husband, Brian Wright, preceded her in death, and for the last decade of her life, she has enjoyed spending time with her many close friends as well as several dogs who could always be found snuggled near her side.Marie is survived by her mother, Shirley MacDonald, loving sons Michael (Lori) Hinson, and John Hinson; grandchildren Ashley (David), Shaun, Jordan, Alyssa (Eric), Abigail, and great-grandson, Caleb.We will celebrate her life at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday on January 6, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel, with a graveside service immediately following at Resthaven Cemetery. Face coverings are mandatory, and the staff will enforce social distancing in compliance with state regulations. These precautions are to ensure that the family and our community are safe.
