Mallory Levi Miller, Jr. (Mack), 86, died after a brief illness on Monday morning, May 20, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas.
Born April 15, 1938, in El Paso, Texas to Edna Louise Taylor Miller and Mallory Levi Miller, Sr. Mack was big brother to Paul Burke Miller (deceased) and Patricia Louise Miller. After graduating from El Paso High School, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Western College (now UTEP), his J.D. from the University of Texas in Austin, and his L.L.M from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He married his high school sweetheart, Margie MacNeil, who preceded him in death. Together, they had two children: Mallory Levi Miller, III and Helen Miller Liggett. He has three granddaughters. He is survived by his longtime companion, Shirley Hartman.
After law school, Mack served as a Navy JAG officer until 1968, and 20 years as a Navy reserve officer. After losing his wife, Mack moved to Lubbock in 2007. Mack was a lifelong volunteer for the many causes dear to his heart: Christianity, legal reform fidelity to the Constitution, politics, neighborhood maintenance, and revival. Mack loved living in Lubbock, where he found a welcoming community of like-minded citizens he greatly enjoyed engaging with. He liked to say, “I am always teaching. I am always learning.”
His daughter introduced him to Shirley, who brightened his life and filled him with admiration, love, and gratitude for their time together.
Mack’s was a life well-lived. He was well-loved and he loved well in return. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
