Obituary

Surrounded by family, our precious and loving mother, Lydia (Memo) Magallanes, said her final goodbyes and entered into the presence of our Lord on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed cooking for them always; her homemade tortillas were the best! Visiting family and friends were always treated to homemade food and desserts.

Early in her marriage, she worked as a chuck-wagon cook for her husband’s sheep shearing crew. Her children often accompanied them, and the children quickly learned the value of hard labor. Memo used this to encourage the importance of higher education. She worked as a cook until her children graduated from college.

On December 12, 1922, Lydia was born to Salome and Lorenza Cantu in Langtry, Texas. She married Reyes Magallanes on June 28, 1947, in Langtry, Texas. Her husband preceded her in death on September 17, 1998.

Left to cherish her memories are their children: Juanita (George) Guevara, Bertha (Jesus) Rendon, and Richard (Sylvia) Magallanes; grandchildren: Reuben (Carrie) Guevara, James (Analisa) Guevara, Jonathan Rendon, Joshua (Irene) Ware, Lydialicia (Christopher) Jones, and Lauren Magallanes; great-grandchildren: Reyes Guevara, Mia Guevara, Malachi Guevara, and Gabriela Ware; siblings: Antonio (Delia) Cantu; Maria Cano.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Salome and Lorenza Cantu, and siblings: Eva Villarreal, Amador, Reynaldo, Vicente, Jose, Santiago, Jesus, Salome Cantu, and Manuela Escamilla.

The family of Lydia Magallanes will celebrate her life of 98 years at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Her family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, July 23, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. We invite you to view the live-streamed service on this page, sign her virtual guestbook, and download her memorial keepsake folder to your device for printing. We also ask that you consider viewing her Life Tribute, a video of photographs set to her favorite music.
