Lurlyne Ouida Chapman, a loving mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on February 20, 2024, in Lubbock. She was born in Robert Lee, Texas on November 6, 1932, to Orbie Phelix and Ruby Leona (Roberts) Pettit. She graduated from Robert Lee High School and attended South Plains College. Lurlyne married Carlton Chapman on August 21, 1954, in Big Spring, Texas. She worked as a secretary for the Salvation Army for two decades, and worked at several banks as a teller and bookkeeper alongside her husband, Carlton.
Throughout her life, Lurlyne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lubbock. She enjoyed gardening, China painting, and was an avid reader.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her daughter, Myrna Reed; grandchildren Chris Chapman, Casey Chapman, Rowdy Reed, C.J. (Ashley) Reed, Bodie (Colee) Reed, Michael (Blanca) Cox, and Gregory (Shauna) Cox; as well as great-grandchildren Colby Reed, Chloe Reed, Olivia Reed, Grace (Taylor) Stein, Shayne Cox, Kathryn Cox, Alyssa Cox, Jeniah Cox, Jayla Cox, Carlos Cox, Julius Cox, Michael Cox II, Brittany (Brandyn) Winkler; great nephew Tyler (Jill) Lassiter.
Lurlyne is also survived by her sister, Doris Lassiter; nephew Kevin (Kelli) Lassiter; and son-in-law Ralph Cox.
Lurlyne now reunites with her parents; her husband, Carlton Chapman; a daughter, Carla Cox; a son, Steve Chapman; and nephew, Kelly Lassiter.
Graveside services will be held on March 3, 2024, at 2:00 pm. at Hillside Memorial Gardens, Snyder, Texas.
Lurlyne’s warmth, kindness, and generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of the gardens she tended and the stories she lovingly read.
