On January 27, 1949, Lupe was born to Nicanor and Faustina (Solis) Gonzales in Slaton, TX.
As a young man, Lupe developed a love for baseball and enjoyed playing the game so much that he joined the Wilson Missions baseball team, where he played pitcher.

Lupe spent the majority of his career as a glass installer and was well known among the automotive industry in Lubbock and the surrounding areas. He worked for Quality Auto Glass for several years. Before his retirement, he worked for Jim Potts Auto Glass and formed friendships with his coworkers and customers.
In 1967 Lupe was smitten when he first met Ruby Chapa, whom he would later marry on August 1st, 1970. After meeting and marrying the love of his life, he was introduced to the game of golf. Once he was bitten by the golf bug, he found that he was quite good at the game. Lupe joined the Pan American Golf Association and participated in several tournaments. Lupe’s favorite pastime was watching sports and spending time with his family. He was a loyal lifetime fan of the 49’ers and loved to watch the game on tv when he wasn’t watching golf.
