Louise Bean Appel of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on October 9, 2022, at the age of 95. She was born April 17, 1927, in Ozona, Texas, to George and Vada Bean.
As a young woman, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She lived in New York City and then returned to Ozona, Texas to ranch and teach. After raising her family, she lived in San Angelo, Georgetown, Round Rock, and Lubbock.
Louise’s quest in life was to see the world and all that is in it… and she did! She explored all seven continents extensively. She enjoyed speaking with the Pope in the Vatican, Nikita Khrushchev while cruising the Black Sea, the Dalai Lama in Mussoorie, and President George HW Bush at South Fork near Dallas, Texas. She had empathy with the local people around the globe, able to start a conversation despite a language barrier.
She was elegant, generous, compassionate, and a very good listener.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Joe Bean of Ozona, TX; sisters Francis Baker of Ozona, TX, and Doris Johnson of Denton, TX; and son-in-law, Randy Pumphrey of Lubbock, TX.
Louise is survived by her children Cynthia Underwood of Dallas, TX, James and Shana Appel of Show Low, AZ, Nancy Pumphrey of Lubbock, TX, Jennifer Jordon and Craig Jenson of Apopka, FL, and Kathleen and Jack Weinberg of Coto de Caza, CA. Grandchildren Jaxson Appel of League City, TX, Jameson Appel of Friendswood, TX, Jarrett Appel of Houston, TX, Lauren Jordon of Eustis, FL, Ashley Czachur of Broomfield, CO, Audrey Jordon of Gainesville, TX, Alex Weinberg of Coto de Caza, CA, Brian Weinberg of Laguna Niguel, CA, and 9 great-grandchildren.
