Lorel Cluff was born on November 3, 1930, the youngest of 11, in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Heber and Amanda Cluff.
Lorel grew up on a ranch in the mountains of Pacheco and was riding horses and working the ranch along with all his brothers and sisters at a very young age. He graduated from the Juarez Stake Academy where he excelled in all sports,but especially in baseball.
At 18, after graduation, he moved to El Paso, TX to find work and soon married Anna Lou Redd. Lorel was drafted into the Army in 1951 and spent most of his service time in Germany. Upon discharge from the army, Lorel returned to his family in El Paso and began working for ASARCO, ultimately becoming the head of the loading and unloading department. He and Anna had five children, and later divorced.
Lorel married Erline Houser in 1970, and they went on to have three children.
Lorel retired from ASARCO, and then became a building and maintenance supervisor for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Upon Erline’s death in 2004, Lorel moved to Lubbock to be close to his son, Jeffrey, which is where he met and married Annabell Lines in 2005.
He was a llifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities for the church.
Lorel is survived by his children Lorel Eugene (Barbara, deceased) Cluff of San Antonio, TX; Larry (Lori) Friedman of Idaho Falls, ID; Carol (Steve) Hampton of San Angelo, TX; Ken (Chris) Cluff of Royce City, TX; Ann (Johnnie) Couch of Kingsbury, TX; Chris (Dan) Clubb of Squires, MO; Scott (Judi) Cluff of N Fort Myers, FL; Jeffrey (Nicole) Cluff of Lubbock, TX; Kimberly (Mike) Onines of Stockton, CA; Darlene Cluff of Charlotte, NC; and his sister Viva Whetton of Mesa, AZ.
Lorel is preceded in death by his former wives Anna Cluff; Erline Cluff; Annabell Cluff; and step-son Bill Friedman.
Lorel, 93, passed away on August 21,2024.
