Deke Hargrove, a cherished husband, devoted father, beloved grandfather, and esteemed community member, passed away on March 12, 2025, in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas. Born on February 4, 1959, in Lubbock, to the late Charles and Janice (Jordan) Hargrove, Deke lived a life rich with love, faith, and the joy of family.
If you knew Deke you saw the motto lived out daily “trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent”. This was not just a Boy Scout motto it was part of his character. Deke was honored with the rank of Eagle Scout on October 27, 1974. He graduated from Coronado High School and pursued further education at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas where he earned an associate’s degree in Practical Theology. His faith was evident in his years of service as a pastor at Bethany Christian Church, Lubbock and The Gospel Lighthouse, Lovington, New Mexico. He also served many years as a teacher and Elder at Church on the Rock, Lubbock, Texas. A creative soul with a knack for business, Deke and his older brother Charles were the proud owners of Charles Hargrove and Associates, a commercial paint contracting company. As in every area of his life, Deke approached his work with the same character he lived his life by. If he told you he would get something done, he did it.
On September 10, 1983, Deke married the love of his life, Carrie Cassell, and together they built a nurturing home filled with laughter and faith. Deke’s devotion extended beyond his beloved wife; he was a proud father to Tiffany Hargrove Jablonsky, Austin Hargrove, and Trey Hargrove, and a doting grandfather to Brayden, Isabel, Poppy, Saylor, and Theodore. His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Deke had a love for cars that was nurtured by his father to rebuild and restore as well as the enjoyment of driving them. Deke had a particular passion for Corvettes, often sharing this love with his family and friends. His strong spirit and gentle heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Deke is survived by his loving wife, Carrie; his children, Tiffany and husband Justin, Austin and wife Emily, and Trey; grandchildren, Brayden, Isabel, Poppy, Saylor, and Theodore; his siblings, Charles Hargrove, Jr. and wife Renée, Anson Hargrove and wife Cassandra, and his sister Carol Pevey and husband Rick; and his father and mother-in-law, Emory and Marianne Cassell.
The Hargrove family will honor Deke’s life with a Celebration of Life at Church on the Rock South Campus on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on March 17, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Church on the Rock or the Lubbock Dream Center, reflecting his love for family, community, and faith. His legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
