Laverne Johnson Sager was born on April 1, 1925 to Scott and Vesta (Janes) Irwin in Hamlin, TX, the second youngest of 7 children. Laverne was a former resident of Post, TX. She has been a resident of Lubbock since 1963 where she was a long-term member of Oakwood Baptist Church. Laverne was a prolific landscape painter, bookkeeper, homemaker and loved being a “granny.” Laverne was a leader and example of Christ with her faith and beliefs. She enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Cloudcroft, NM. She loved entertaining in her home and having her many life-long friends join her, including “The Old Gang.” The Old Gang was a group of 8 couples who all met at Central Baptist Church youth group and remained friends until their senior years.Survivors include her daughter, Gayla Joyce Gregg of Lubbock; son, Walter Lee Johnson, Jr. and wife Suzanne Ullom Johnson of Allen; grandchildren, Melodi Gregg, Tami (Spence) Ainsworth, Jami (Sean) Collins, Cade Gregg, David (Kelly) Johnson, Laura (Jody) Snook, and Tim Johnson; and 8 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, including Walter Lee Johnson and Don M. Sager. She had three brothers and three sisters.Laverne Johnson Sager passed away on July 4, 2019.
