On March 14, 2021, at the age of 77, with her family at her side, Helen Lavell Anderson Baker went home to be with her Lord after a lengthy illness, never to suffer again. Lavell was born on February 28, 1944, to Albert and Margie Anderson.
Lavell is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, David Cal Baker; two sons, David Glen Baker and wife Christy of Lubbock; and Jody Lynn Baker and wife Shelly of Huntsville; her siblings, Glenda Kay Wright of Pace, Florida, and Dwayne Anderson and wife Barbara of Simpsonville, S.C.; five granddaughters, four grandsons, five great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews – who lovingly called her “Aunt Vell”; and numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
Lavell was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Margie Anderson, her sister Betty Ruth Henry and daughter-in-law Janice Baker.
She was dedicated to her children and served on the PTA and various other committees in their schools. Lavell was a Christian lady, following Jesus’ teachings of loving her neighbors, feeding the hungry, caring for the poor and helpless. She loved God and put her trust in Him.
Lavell was a dedicated wife, always faithful and loving David. She supported him in what he did as they shared 57 years together through thick and thin; never wavering from their love.
Lavell was loved by all who knew her and was known for her kindness and generosity. She collected over 35,000 toys for Toys for Tots over a span of 11 years, assuring that all children in the area were remembered at Christmas. Boys Ranch, Ronald McDonald House, and Women’s Protective Services were among the organizations she helped support.
Lavell provided a warm, nourishing environment where everyone was welcome at her kitchen table. Many people were lucky recipients of her beautiful, fragrant roses. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making many crafts throughout the years. She was very talented in craft painting, macrame, and ceramics.
