Kenneth Don Cowling was born May 30, 1930, to Charles and Pearl Cowling in Era, TX. He married Billie Marie Brown on February 28th, 1953, in Gainesville, TX. He graduated from Era High School, and then went on to graduate from Texas A & M University. He served in the military from 1953 to 1955 as a platoon leader, then as a Company Commander at the US Army Artillery Center, Fort Sill Oklahoma.
Ken was employed with Haliburton Oil Company, Howton Gin Company, and Anderson Clayton Company. In 1975 Ken, along with his wife Billie, and sons Ken Jr. and Byron, opened and operated Cowling’s Furniture until 1995. Thereafter, he owned and operated Cowling Enterprises until his death.
Ken is survived by children, Byron (Barbara) Cowling, Kenneth D. Cowling Jr.; grandchildren, Brooke Cowling, Ben (Meredith) Cowling, Joseph Clayton (Erin) Cowling, Dr. John Colton (Dr. Betsy) Cowling, Cody Daniel (Blair) Cowling; great grandchildren, Clayton Cowling Jr., Annie Ruth Cowling, Thomas Daniel Cowling, John Michael Cowling; and sister, Sandra Sue Cowling-Dunn.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Cowling; son, Randy Cowling; parents, Charles and Pearl Cowling; grandson, Bo Cowling, and brothers Charles, Max and Bobby Cowling.
Ken D. Cowling passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024.
