Jim, I was sad to learn of your loss. What a bright light Kathy cast in everything she did! I met her when J.B. Potts hosted a luncheon for her in our Executive Dining Room at LNB, & I immediately liked her, as everyone did! Later she married you & I think we saw each other at some point, & I was happy for both of you. I can imagine how you miss her & have kept you in my prayers. Lubbock was fortunate to have her tireless efforts in good causes which she made better.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

So sad to hear of Kathy's passing. We were classmates at QHS, class of 1969, and while we didn't keep in touch after graduation, I heard through others of her accomplishments and certainly wasn't surprised! She was gem in high school and beyond. I know your family has a deep void with her passing. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Kay Carpenter Rice

"Bess" Haley left a message on September 29, 2023:
Kathy Gilbreath was an enthusiastic, dedicated and determined leader. When I arrived as a new Dean for what became the College of Human Sciences at Texas Tech, she came to my office to meet me. She served on our first Dean's Human Sciences Advisory Council and became the first development officer for the College of Human Science. Although she was quickly promoted to the TTU Advancement Office, she helped establish our development program and opened new horizons for working with alumni and business leaders. Her enthusiasm and spirit were contagious, and I will always be grateful for her. She also served as a role model for Human Sciences students and graduates--demonstrating the flexibility of their degrees. She inspired community leaders to think bigger regarding private giving for significant dreams and possibilities including Buddy Holly Hall. Kathy was an energetic force for good in our community. I am going to miss our enthusiastic visits, her positive approach to life, her caring spirit and overwhelming desire to help others, I am deeply saddened by the loss of Kathy from my life, but I rejoice that I got to know her and to benefit from her untiring excitement for daily life, family, friends, and her desire to make Lubbock a great place for everyone. I will always remember her with joy and continue to be inspired by her spirit. Bess Haley
