Katherine Marie DeShan, 87, of Lubbock, formerly of San Antonio, Texas, passed from this life on January 11, 2018. Kathy was deeply loved and respected by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Katherine was born on September 8, 1930 in Handley, Texas. Together with her husband, Henry Eastman – who preceded her in death – Ms. DeShan capitalized on her entrepreneurial spirit by creating Eastman’s Bridal, a bridal boutique, in San Antonio, Texas. She found joy in dressing brides, from all walks of life, for their big day. Because of trips to market, she grew to love New York City and often referred to it as her “second home.”
Her father, Tom Barrett, and mother, Stella Emigene Tudor-Barrett, as well as her brothers, Bobby and Max Barrett, preceded Katherine in death.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Preston DeShan; daughters Karla Bennett; Lynda Nichols and husband, Tom; sons, Chris Keen and wife, Leslie; Richard Keen; and step-son Dr. David DeShan and wife, Cindy; brothers, Dale Barrett and wife, Clarita; Tommy Barrett and wife, Pat; as well as sisters, Liz and Nina. She was affectionately known as “Mimi” by her eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Katherine was a member of South Plains Church of Christ and could often be found tilling the ground in her garden. She loved to cook and bake in her kitchen at home, surrounded by her pets – Rusty, Muffin, and Savannah.
