The family of Karen Nell Wilson will host a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, April 09, 2023, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. A service to celebrate her life of 79 years is scheduled at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Monterey Baptist Church, followed by a graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. After a short battle with lung cancer, Karen passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, surrounded by her family. Karen was born on March 5, 1944. She was the youngest child of Rufus and Ida Mae Millsapps. She grew up in Lamesa Texas. Karen married Leldon Wilson on September 28th, 1963, at Bryan Street Baptist Church in Lamesa. In 1964 they moved to Lubbock where Karen began her career in banking. She took banking classes at South Plains College and Texas Tech. After working in the banking industry for 58 years, she retired from Plains Capital Bank in June of 2022.
Karen was a Silver Life Master bridge player and former president of the bridge club. She was a world traveler and especially enjoyed traveling to, Rome and Italy with her husband. She was also an avid moviegoer. Karen also enjoyed shopping and has a great shoe collection. Karen and her husband were members of Monterey Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 59 ½ years, Leldon Wilson; daughter, Sheri (Greg) Penkert; son, David (Tabatha) Wilson; grandsons, Garrett Howell, and Nathan Ashely; granddaughters, Shelby Howell, Maddy Wilson, Ella Ashely, Halle Ashely, and Kincey Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus, and Ida Mae Wilson; brother, Jerry Millsapps; sister, Rufene Hudson.
