It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Judith Katherine Meitin of Lubbock, TX at the age of 79 following a courageous battle with illness. She passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at 1:22pm while in Palliative care at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX.
Judy was born on June 28, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio to James C. and Lorraine Burns. As a child, Judy grew up in a military environment, as her father was a Sergeant in the United States Army. During her father’s military career, her family traveled extensively, but she recalls that Hawaii left her with the most memorable childhood experiences. Judy married Timothy H. Meitin on August 7, 1971, in El Paso, TX. She loved training and showing horses, then found a new passion, which was a love of the Shar Pei dog breed. Judy and Tim acquired their first Shar Pei in the early 1980s, which soon turned into a lifestyle of breeding and showing this wonderful breed of dogs. For most of her career, she worked as a bookkeeper for a travel agency in Lubbock. Judy had many artistic talents and underlying hobbies, but in her spare time, she dabbled in one of her favorites, which was interior design. In her final days, she shared with her children that she lived a good life, did everything she always wanted to do and had no regrets. Judy is survived by her children, Patrick (Gwen) Meitin, Connie (Brian) Harris, Kristen Meitin; grandson, Taylor (Ariel) Newman; great grandchildren, Luka Newman and Lucian Newman; brother, James Burns Jr.; and numerous nephews and nieces. Judy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
