John Scott Drake, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones and entered into the presence of the Lord on January 26, 2024, at the age of 66 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He will be missed and there is an empty place in the hearts of his family and many friends.
Scott was born on October 24, 1957, to J.T. & Wanda Drake in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from Ropesville High School in 1976 and Ropesville was his home. He attended San Angelo College in 1977-1979 and returned to Ropesville where he spent the next 44 years farming in the Ropesville areas.
A man of very few words, Scott touched the lives of everyone he met with his quiet, kind and humble spirit sprinkled with his quick wit. He was a devoted husband, loving father, dedicated son, and a loyal friend. His most treasured joy was spending time with his family. He was active in both his sons’ activities when they were growing up, coaching their Little League baseball games, serving as Cub Scout master in Scouts, traveling and supporting his boys for stock shows throughout Texas, and attending every sporting event to cheer on his boys playing football and basketball. A devoted man of faith, Scott was an active member of The First United Methodist Church in Ropesville and attended Sunday service regularly until his illness last year.
Scott served his community well. He was elected to the Ropes ISD School Board as well as the Ropes Co-op Gin Board, serving at each for 17 years.
To cherish his memory, Scott is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Mary Drake of Wolfforth, and their two sons, Tanner and daughter-in-law Bethani Drake of Lubbock, and Tyler Drake of Ropesville. Scott was overjoyed to meet his grandson, Tate Scott Drake of Lubbock, born last month. Scott is predeceased by his father, J.T. Drake, and is survived by his mother, Wanda Drake of Ropesville, two brothers, Jerry Drake (Cathy) of Katy, Texas, and Joel Drake (Karen) of Meadow, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Ropesville or to a favorite charity.
