Prof. John Edward Krahmer was born on March 7, 1942, and died on April 4, 2018. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 6 to 8 PM, April 6, 2018, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 76 years with a Memorial Mass on Saturday, April 7, 1 PM at St. Elizabeth Church.

He met Sandra L. Krahmer during their time at the University of Iowa. They married in August of 1966 and celebrated 51 years of marriage. He was the son of a factory worker and worked himself to the top of the legal profession in commercial law. He is remembered by his family as a wonderful husband, dad, brother, and granddad. He is remembered by his colleagues as one of the most influential professors at TTU School of Law.

Starting in 1971, Prof. Krahmer taught Contracts, Commercial Law, and Consumer Law at TTU School of Law. He was Faculty Editor of The Texas Bank Lawyer, a monthly publication of the TABC, and Faculty Editor of The American Bank Lawyer. He was the longest-serving member on the TTU School of Law faculty, and retired from full-time teaching in August 2017.

Prof. Krahmer received the TTU President’s Research Award and the President’s Teaching Award. He was the first member of the Law Faculty to receive the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Teaching, and his students recognized his teaching ability by selecting him for teaching awards seven different times. He wrote nine text books and several law review articles.

Prof. Krahmer earned a B.A. from the University of Iowa in 1965, a J.D. from University of Iowa in 1966, and an LL.M. from Harvard University in 1967.

He is survived by his wife, Sandi Krahmer; sister, Mary Ann Krahmer; son, Ben Krahmer; daughters, Alyssa and Ana Krahmer; and granddaughter, Kayla Krahmer. He is also survived by a grandson, Sean Krahmer, and wife, Kylie, as well as a great-granddaughter, Blakeley Krahmer; and niece, Jamie Krahmer.

Dear Friends—Professor Krahmer taught my very first class in law school, and may more after it. It was a privilege to work with him on Texas Bank Lawyer. One of my favorite memories was when he asked me a question and I answered incorrectly. He didn’t scold or correct me. He simply worked to ask me a series of questions I did know the answer to, and then, having led me to all the pieces, asked me the first question again. And I got it right! And he smiled so big and so did I! He taught me not just about the law, but about being a good lawyer, a better teacher, and a better person. The world was better with him in it. I was a student of Professor Krahmer over 43 years ago. He was a fine professor and scholar. I was very sorry to learn of his passing. You have my deepest sympathy and are in my prayers.

John Kramer's family and colleagues: I just found out about his passing. I have fond memories of being in his classes and I remember him calling on me once when I was day dreaming. What a tremendous loss, both personally and professionally. Prof. Krahmer was always available to give his incredibly knowledgeable insights whenever needed, both while one was in school and in need, as well as once one left TT Law and embarked on a career. I always enjoyed our talks. RIP.

Professor Krahmer taught me Commercial Law in 1982. I have been now been practicing Commercial Law and Bankruptcy for 35 years in Texas. He was one of my favorite professors at Tech and was a great influence on my life. I remember his colorful ties that he wore every day to class. I recently visited Dr. Krahmer and his family at UMC and am very sorry for this loss. My thoughts and prayers are extended to your family. You will never be forgotten.

Texas Tech School of Law just lost a giant in legal education with his passing. So many of us who were privileged to know him and have him as our teacher and mentor are surprised and deeply saddened. He was one of my favorite teachers - kind, caring, sensitive, and, of course, a brilliant legal mind. When I remember those years in law school, his presence dominates many memories. I am so grateful for his help and encouragement, and legal education at Tech Law will be less as a result of his loss. My condolences to his wife Sandy and their family.

Professor Krahmer was a kind, brilliant role model, and he will always be one of my favorite professors from Tech Law. My sincerest condolences on your loss. He was and is a legend.

Professor Krahmer was one of the best professors I had in law school. He was approachable and a great teacher. I had him for both Commercial and Consumer Law and truth to be told, I only took the latter course to be able to have one more class with him. My condolences to his family. May he Rest In Peace.

He truly was "Big": in his presence, his legacy, and his love for all of you, his students, his colleagues, and the law. I learned so much from him. He was a great professor and an even greater man. So sorry to hear of John's passing. My first ever law school class was contracts with Prof. Krahmer. He started class by saying we had a better chance of winning the lottery than being the first person called on in law school. Then he said, "having said that, Mr. Walraven, would you discuss the first case." I certainly was able to get me first day jitters out of the way in a hurry. Prof. Krahmer was a spectacular teacher, and I enjoyed each of the three classes I took from him.

He made interesting that with which I had no interest. He had me learn what I was disinclined to learn. He gave wisely and unselfishly. A gifted teacher, a fine role model. I'm delighted to have known him and deeply saddened by his passing.

So shocked and sad to hear about Prof. Krahmer's passing! He was one of my favorite professors in law school.

Professor Krahmer was perfectly suited for teaching law. He had a brilliant and quick mind, and was able to communicate in a way that made even commercial law interesting. I had the good fortune while a law student of being asked to co-author a law review article with him. What a learning experience, and pleasure that was. He encouraged me to go on to Harvard, even providing me a road map on how to get there. Regretfully, I didn't follow that road map. But, I became a better person, and better lawyer, because of him.
