In the quiet embrace of November’s gentle sigh, a beloved soul, Joe Ann Combs, did gently part on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the age of 86.
She was born on February 25, 1937, in Lubbock, Texas, to Marvin and Virginia Dudley. Joe Ann married Delton E. Combs on February 25, 1955, at Flint Avenue Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas.
Joe Ann’s hardworking nature and passion for serving others were evident in everything she did. She was a dedicated employee, having worked in the service department at Gene Messer Ford for many years. Previously she worked for a local school and ventured into entrepreneurship by successfully opening and operating her own restaurant.
Deeply rooted in faith, Joe Ann was an active, committed member of Calvary Baptist Church. She found joy and purpose in serving her community through various ministries, including the Pillow Ministry and the Mission food ministry. She found immense fulfillment in assisting with food distribution and offering comfort and support to those in need.
Joe Ann’s culinary talents were legendary, and she delighted in serving her large family. Her Thanksgiving Dressing was particularly renowned, and she took great pride in preparing it for her loved ones. She had a mischievous sense of humor, as evidenced by the photograph she sent to her daughter, showcasing her famed mouth-watering dish, knowing her daughter would miss the traditional family gathering.
Her family was at the center of Joe Ann’s life, and she cherished her role as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In their laughter and love, her spirit does reside. She is survived by her children, Donnie Combs and wife, Jackie, Gary Combs and wife, Donna, Joni Gregg and husband, Bryan, and Mike Combs and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Erin (Mike), Lauren, Krissy, Jake (Kristy), Lindsey, Kelsey (Zach), Sarah (Reid), Morgan (Dustin), Bailey (Joshua); great-grandchildren, Jo, Jackson, Bird, Zoe, Alexana, Lily, Tayzlee, Tinlee, Teagan, Leighton, Zayn, Marley, Rylann, Pierce, Sutton, Rylann2, Cade, Elliott, Casyn, Ledger, Beckett, Cohen, Charlie, Will and Brett.
She has been reunited with her love, Delton, and together they rest in peace. Joe Ann was also preceded by her great granddaughter Collins Lindsey, her parents, her three sisters Barbara, Judy and Sherry, and her brother Kenneth.
