Jodie Earl Wallace, 83, passed from this life into his eternal home on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. He was born on June 29th, 1939, in Santa Anna, TX, to Dock and Ozelle Wallace. Jodie graduated from Rising Star High School where he participated in football and track. He graduated from Lubbock Christian College in 1961 and then went to Blue Haven Youth Camp as a counselor where he met Goldye Lewis. He and Goldye married in Abilene, Texas, on July 8th, 1963. Jodie earned his bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian College and a master’s from Western New Mexico University.
They moved to Grants, New Mexico, where Jodie was a teacher, coach, and athletic director. His cross-country teams at Grants High won two NM State Championships. Jodie was selected Cross Country Coach of the Year for District 6 by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. Later Jodie moved to Crownpoint, NM, where he was the principal of Crownpoint High School for fourteen years.
Jodie and Goldye retired to Lubbock in 2000. He officiated track meets, enjoyed LCU and Tech sports, and enjoyed playing golf with his golf buddies. For several years he got officials to work the UIL 1-A Track and Field Meet at South Plains College, where he made many friends.
He was a member of Monterey Church of Christ, where he served several years as Senior Adults Minister.
Jodie was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife Goldye, son Ronnie Wallace, daughter Jo Odom (Scott), and grandchildren Mason Odom (Klara), Tatum Wallace, Grant Wallace, Sadie Kovacs (Gage).
The family of Jodie Wallace will host a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 PM until 6:30 PM on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Lake Ridge Chapel. A service to celebrate his life is scheduled at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Lake Ridge Chapel.
