Joan was born March 13, 1935 in Erath County, Texas, to Merle and Elvin Chestnut. She began school at the age of five just so that her sister, Bonnie, would not have to walk to school alone. The family moved to Lubbock in 1947. Joan graduated from Lubbock High School in 1952. After graduation, Joan worked at Lubbock National Bank where she met the love of her life, Wayland “Billy” Sims. She and Billy were married February 12, 1960 in Clovis, New Mexico. In 1971, Joan and Billy began a new chapter in their lives opening Billy Sims Trailer Town, a business which became nationally recognized for its high standard of sales and service. Under their leadership the business won numerous awards both locally and nationally. Joan was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of Lubbock.
Survivors include her three children, Deborah Anglin and husband, Tony Airhart; Eric Sims and wife Gayle; and Shannon Crabtree and husband Randy; four children of the heart, Jerry Williamson and wife, Kelly; Mitzi McEntire and husband, Randy; Wes Tolley and wife, Bethany; Keith Austin and wife, Darla; six grandchildren, Robert Anglin and wife Jenny; Dusty Sims and wife, Courtney; Tyler Sims and wife Lauren; Samantha Sims and Correy Douglass, Garrett and Noe’ Crabtree; and four great grandchildren, Wyatt and Opal Joan Anglin; Tristan Crabtree, and Milo Douglass. She is also survived by her sister, Bonnie Hudgeons and husband, Fred.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Elvin Chestnut; husband, Billy Sims.
