Jay Wesley Watson

Jay Wesley Watson was born September 8, 1962, in Lubbock, Texas, to K. Dencil and Kathryn Watson. He attended Frenship High School, where he distinguished himself as a gifted athlete. Upon graduation, Jay attended Texas Tech University and became a lifelong Red Raider. In 1982, Jay married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Jana. Shortly thereafter, they welcomed two daughters, Kristen and Meagan, into their family.In 1987, Jay joined the Lubbock Professional Fire Department. He served as a fire fighter for 28 years, until his retirement in 2015. Jay was passionate about his role as a first responder and served on local, state, and international fire fighter unions.  He was also a tireless community advocate, leading the LPFFA’s ‘Fill the Boot’ and ‘Operation Warm: Coats for Kids’ initiatives. Jay’s love of God, family, and service defined his life.He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Evans, father, K. Dencil Watson, and step-sister Brenda Marsh. Jay is survived by his loving wife, Jana Watson, two daughters, Kristen Andrus and husband David of Loveland, CO, and Meagan Watson of Lubbock; three beloved grandchildren, Carter, Tinsley and Wesley Andrus of Loveland, CO; his step-father, Tommy Evans of Hurlwood; two brothers, Jimmy Watson of Killeen, and Mack Evans of Lubbock; and one step-sister Mickie Prado.
