Janice Normandyne O’Brien was born on October 18, 1935, the oldest child of Lencie and Ora O’Brien Sr. She confessed at an early age at South Union Baptist Church in her hometown, Palestine, Texas. She later married her high school sweetheart, Charles E. Henry, also of Palestine on August 22, 1956. To this union, they have two children, a son Melvin Wayne Henry, and a daughter, Carolyn Janiece Henry.
Janice graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Vocational Nursing. She enjoyed 33 years of nursing. She was an ICU medical surgical and coronary care unit nurse, for which she received commendations from administration, supervisors, coworkers, and her patients. Janice believed in taking care of her patients and was such a caring person. She retired in 1997.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Lencie and Ora O’Brien; brother, Lencie O’Brien Jr.; husband, Charles E. Henry.
She is survived by children, Melvin Wayne Henry (Annie), Carolyn Janiece Henry (Larry); three grandchildren, Kemberli Bridges (Irving), Kamica Thompson (Paris), Katrina Ross (Robby); six great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Keondre, Josiah, Journee, Jaden, Machiaih; three sisters, Melba Smith, Deborah Curry, and Pamela Wesley; and many nieces and nephews.
