Jane Cone passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas, at UMC Hospital, surrounded by her family. Jane will be fondly remembered for her zeal for life and was a constant light to everyone she met. She was always ready with a smile and never met a stranger.
Jane was born on June 13, 1947, in Lubbock, TX. She was the only child of Cecil and Grace (Emerson) Kelsey. She married James Raymond Cone, Jr. 50 years ago on March 25, 1972, at First Baptist Church in Lubbock, TX.
Jane grew up in Lubbock, where she attended Lubbock High School. She was a member of the cheerleading squad and active in many school spirit groups. She then attended Texas Tech and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. Jane moved to Austin and graduated from the University of Texas. After graduation, Jane taught school in Dallas and then in Lubbock, where she met her husband. She poured her heart into raising her boys and serving the community as a member of the Junior League.
Jane’s positive spirit will live on through everyone she touched. The world is a better place for having her in it.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; sons, Jim Cone, III, and wife Kim, and Caleb Cone and wife Shawna; and grandchildren, James “Quatro” Cone, IV, Rix Cone, Mary Elizabeth Cone, Thomas Cone, and Grace Cone.
